Award-winning spoken word dining experience Feast of Words is set to make its Edinburgh debut this summer, bringing together acclaimed poetry, live music and an expertly crafted tasting menu as part of the Edinburgh Folk & Food Festival (EFFF).
The immersive 90-minute event combines spoken word performance, storytelling and live music with a specially curated three-course tasting menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Tomás Gormley.
Brought to the EFFF by Assembly Festival, the Palais du Variété Spiegeltent will host an afternoon of spoken word and a delicious three-course tasting menu.
Following a successful run at the Adelaide Fringe, multi award-winning writer and designer Casey Jay Andrews and musician Jack Brett return to host Feast of Words, promising an afternoon of award-winning poetry, storytelling and live musical performance.
One of Edinburgh's most celebrated chefs, Tomás Gormley, is behind the menu. He is the co-founder of Michelin-starred restaurant The Heron and Bib Gourmand-winning restaurant Skua, now focusing on his first solo venture, Cardinal.
Known for his signature seasonal culinary style, Gormley’s dishes use top Scottish produce to craft bold and playful flavours – the perfect combination with music and poetry.
Tomás said, “When I first heard about what the guys were doing out in Adelaide with Feast of Words I was completely sold. For me so much of cooking is performance and storytelling so being able to work with Casey on the Edinburgh edition has been super enjoyable and I think the end result is going to be a real winner.”
Writer and designer Casey Jay Andrews returns to Edinburgh following previous successful runs at the Fringe and Adelaide Fringe, where Feast of Words earned widespread critical praise.
No stranger to the city’s arts scene, Andrews won her first Fringe First Award in 2018 for ‘The Archive of Educated Hearts’ and has returned to the festival with a string of celebrated productions ever since.
Feast of Words will offer Edinburgh audiences the rare opportunity to experience world-class storytelling and exceptional Scottish dining in one unforgettable event.
The premium tasting menu is made up of foraged girolle broth, BBQ Bramblewood Farm mutton, finishing off with Blackety Side strawberries from Fife with cultured clotted cream. Vegetarian and vegan options will also be available.
Tickets for Feast of Words are available from £46.25 and can be purchased here. The event begins at 15:30 and runs for 90 minutes, taking place at the end of July.
The Edinburgh Folk & Food Festival is a 10-day celebration of Scottish culture, featuring 28 of Scotland's finest street food vendors, a stellar folk music line-up and an all-new family events programme.
Taking place from 24 July to 02 August, EFFF will also see the return of Scottish MasterChef star Sarah Rankin, with a packed programme of live cooking demonstrations alongside some of Edinburgh's most popular chefs.
Edinburgh Food Social will also present a series of street food workshops across the festival, encouraging people to engage with sustainable, seasonal and healthy food.
Hit musical acts include contemporary folk band Breabach and Mercury Prize-nominated Seth Lakeman, alongside a late-night ceilidh with Will Richards & The Ceilidh Nomads. Early access appearances from Fringe favourite shows including Comedy Club 4 Kids and The Greatest Magic Show are also part of the EFFF programme.
